About OUM

Open University Malaysia (OUM) is the first open and distance learning university in Malaysia. It is also the country’s 7th private university. Established in August 2000, OUM was launched by former Prime Minister, YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on 26 August 2002. Its’ main campus is located at Jalan Tun Ismail in Kuala Lumpur.

Starting with an intake of 753 learners in August 2001, OUM has admitted more than 70,000 learners into over 50 diploma, degree and postgraduate degree programs.

In line with our vision, our mission is to:

  1. Widen access to quality education and provide lifelong learning opportunities by leveraging on technology;

Having paved the way as the first open and distance learning university in Malaysia, OUM aims to continue providing leadership by developing innovative approaches in the field of open and distance learning not only in Malaysia but also internationally. Facilitators must therefore understand and internalize our vision and mission so that you can effectively help the University achieve this goal.
